Compost and soil
Welcome to the compost and soil page!
Marg Saul is the lead for the Compost and Soil steering committee. There are now several bins for compost that can be used. In the fall of 2015 leaves were collected in the bins and were used in the raised beds at the final clean-up. The photo shows Marg Saul with Brianne Whittaker, Colin Brandt, Jason Tauber and Deb Curley at new compost bins during the final fall clean-up on October 16, 2015 organized by Nicole MacDougall, lead for the raised garden beds.
Marg has been a passionate voice in the garden for was so inspired by her research, that she took a course in California. When she returned she gave presentations on the use of the Community Garden’s microscope that allows us to physically observe microbiota in action, such as the good plant-growth promoting bacteria (PGPB) that can help protect host plants from pathogens, help plants in nitrogen fixing, helping in mineral uptake, in dissolving minerals such as phosphorus, in the synthesis of plant hormones.
