Our annual Family Day event in June was a great success. Well over 300 people attended, and families enjoyed one of our favorites, the Butterfield Acres Petting Zoo. The baby animals were a huge attraction to all ages. Our balloon artist, Euan Miller was kept busy creating a great assortment of fascinating balloon creatures. Our thanks to Euan.
This year’s bouncy castle was also a huge attraction, and we would like to thank Virginia (Gini) Clark, our Neighbourhood Partnership Coordinator, from the City of Calgary’s Community and Neighbourhood Services Department for sponsoring the popular bouncy castle. The Parkdale Community Association has a great relationship with Gini, and we thank her for all her support over the years.
The Kensington Lions Club put together an incredible beef on a bun, and baked beans, cole slaw and coffee. This is the third year the Kensington Lions have participated, and we encourage any of you who are interested in volunteering or membership to contact Chris Clarke Kensington Lions Club at 403-286-3524. Thank you Kensington Lions Club.
Soccer awards were awarded to a record number of children participating in this year’s soccer program. It was great seeing the smiling faces of the children as they received their awards, and the proud looks on their parents faces. The success of our soccer program is due in a large part to the commitment of time and energy from Traci Nayeri, Greg and Raylene Habstritt, and many, many parents who coached games, volunteered, or attended games. Thank you to all of you.
After lunch, over 300 ice cream cones were served by Brenda Monghan and Raylene Habstritt. Thank you both for all your help this year.
A Special thank you to Councillor Druh Farrell, who donated $1000.00 for the event, through City Council’s Ward Community Event Fund. This is the third year Councillor Farrell has supported our event, and without this support we would not be able to have community events like this.
Our annual Family Day is one of our biggest events of the year, and we are always looking for new ideas volunteers. If you are interested in helping out next year, or have some suggestions, please contact Bill Biccum, at 403-283-5767.
