Following the success of Parkdale’s first History Night, local historian and raconteur Marcel Hebert welcomes the community back for History Night 2, an all-new discussion and presentation on Parkdale’s past, including:
- The opening of the HBC Calgary Athletic Grounds in 1918, now home to one of Parkdale’s most popular streets – name the street featured in the image above and you could win a very special prize – a 103-year-old brick from the original Brickburn Brick Factory.
- More details about the east-west tramway that placed Parkdale at the terminus of the community.
- A great and spirited conversation about how the original nature of the community influences it to this day.
Marcel has spent 15 years gathering historical information, artifacts and images of Parkdale and the surrounding area. He has spent many hours at the Glenbow Museum, Calgary Library Archives, Calgary Herald and the University of Calgary Taylor Family Digital Library, putting together the information from 1886 onward.
Come and join us as we explore Parkdale’s past, share stories and laughs over a great meal prepared by Brenda of Brenda’s Meat Pies!
