Janet Melrose is ‘Calgary’s Cottage Gardener’,
Her motto is ‘Grow, Nurture, and Bloom’.
After a career in Calgary’s corporate world, Janet’s lifelong enthusiasm for gardening led her to complete the Prairie Horticultural Certificate (with Distinction) through Olds College, together with the Home Farm Horticultural Therapy Certificate.
Janet worked with the Calgary Horticultural Society’s program ‘Community Gardens Resource Network ‘from 2010 through 2014 to promote and foster Calgary’s growing Community Garden movement. In 2015 Janet joined the Stewardship Committee of Calgary Eats, an action based committee under the auspice of the City of Calgary with the mandate to grow a fully city wide Sustainable Local food System through grassroots action of Calgarians.
Horticultural Therapy is Janet’s greatest passion and is honoured to be currently facilitating numerous programs of therapy designed to integrate people marginalized by various disabilities into the larger community, and enhance quality of life and experience in the process.
Janet takes great satisfaction in sharing her knowledge and passion for horticulture, contributing to the community through positive and productive action.
