Soccer Registration Is Now Open! Deadline is January 31st
Soccer Season
We’re excited to announce that registration for this year’s soccer season is now open!
Parkdale Community operates an annual soccer program for kids ranging from 3 - 12 years old. For 2014, the soccer season runs from mid April to mid June. All practices and games are outdoors.
The League
Most of the age levels in the Parkdale soccer program participate in the Northwest House League (NWHL). The NWHL is a soccer league comprising of approximately 15 Northwest Calgary inner city communities. The NWHL is not part of the Calgary Minor Soccer Association (CMSA). What the NWHL offers its participants are:
- An affordable soccer program
- Significantly reduced travel demands (for “Away” games)
- A more flexible soccer program that accommodates all skill levels
- Regularly scheduled games and practices
Equipment
Shin pads are required for all players (all age groups) to participate in games and practices. Soccer cleats are optional at U6 and U8, and highly recommended for U10 and above.
Each child should have a water bottle labelled with their name. The water bottle should be brought to both practices and games.
Age Specific Information
What does U… mean?
This is one of the most commonly asked questions. Children are grouped by age as U6, U8, etc. The “U” stands for “Under”. The number is their age on December 31 of this past New Years Eve. Your child will be assigned to the appropriate age category based on their age on December 31st, 2013.
For example, if your child is 5 years old on December 31st, 2013, your child is considered U6 (even if their birthday is Jan 1st and they will be 6 years old before or during the soccer season).
This means that players are allocated to player groups strictly based on this designation, and we cannot allow players to join team outside of their eligible age group.
Under 4 (U4) – $40.00/child
The U4 program consists of playing some kids games that involve a soccer ball (e.g. red light / green light). They play on Monday and Wednesday nights from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. Yes, we do have wee toddlers and welcome the little starters as young as 2. If they can walk/run, they can play.
Under 6 (U6) - $60.00/child
The U6 program will operate entirely within the Parkdale community. Teams will be mixed (boys and girls). Typically there are 9-12 players per team. Most of the season consists of practice and scrimmaging within each team. Occasional scrimmages may be played between different Parkdale teams, but there will be no games outside the community. Practices and games will be held on Monday and Wednesday nights from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.
Under 8 (U8) - $65.00/child
The U8 program will involve games with teams from nearby communities. Teams will be co-ed (boys and girls), and will be formed on the basis of equal ability. Typically there are 8-10 players per team with 5 players per side for actual games. Practices and games will be held on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.
Forming teams for U10 and up
Depending upon registration numbers at particular age levels, we may have to look at combining Parkdale players with players from another community in order to field a full team. The past few years Parkdale players in U10 and U12 played on the University Heights teams, while players from 3 or 4 other neighbourhoods joined our U14 and U16/18 teams.
Please proceed with online registration; once the final tally is in we will have a better idea of our numbers and team sharing with surrounding communities.
Under 10 (U10) - $75.00/child
We anticipate having one co-ed U10 team. They will play in a boys division.
The U-10 program will involve games with teams from NW Calgary inner-city communities. Teams will be placed into the Boys / co-ed Division and the Girls Division. Parkdale typically forms mixed teams (boys and girls) which will be placed in the Boys Division. There are 10 – 12 players per team with seven players per side for actual games. Practices and games will be held on Tuesday and Thursday nights.
Under 12 (U12) - $80.00/child
Depending upon registration numbers at particular age levels, and 2013 registration numbers, we will look at combining Parkdale Players in U12 with St. Andrews Heights and University Heights. To register for U12 soccer, please proceed with online registration until further notice or changes.
The U-12 program will involve games with teams from Northwest Calgary inner-city communities. Teams will be seeded into Boy’s A & B Divisions (includes mixed teams), and one Girl’s Division. Parkdale typically forms one mixed team (boys and girls) which will be placed in one of the Boy’s Divisions.
Practices and games will be held on Tuesday and Thursday nights respectively. Additional practices may be held on Saturday mornings at the discretion of the coach.
U14 /U16/U18
Based on previous registration numbers, we will not be running U14 or U16/18 teams.
To register for soccer in the U14/u16/U18 categories, we recommend you sign sign up with Rosedale or Bowness, as they have agreed to take players from Parkdale.
