As a result of the loss of anticipated grant funding from the province, we have essentially halved the number of employees at the PCA and are undergoing a review of our existing programming opportunities to ensure that we are offering the right services and programs to Parkdale and Calgary at large.
Our situation is by no means unique – community associations across Calgary are feeling the pinch in much the same way. Changing demographics and behaviors have created a new dynamic across the city, as individuals and families tend to form their own communities around a specific action or outcome, rather than focusing on their neighborhood alone.
The programs where the PCA has really thrived – planning and development, the relaunch of our newsletter, our market, the garden and our soccer program – are all delivered with a core group of volunteers who help ensure that these initiatives succeed. That investment in people – not programming – has been the defining success of my time with the PCA and is undoubtedly the core of our way forward through tough times.
As a Board, we are undergoing a comprehensive business planning process to help us guide and manage the PCA in a more strategic and comprehensive way, with a scheduled completion date in time for our AGM on June 16 at 6:30 pm. Hope to see you then.
If you would like to be involved in this process or are looking to become a more active member of the PCA, please feel free to contact us at email@example.com or contact me directly. We are actively seeking new members that can bring enthusiasm and passion about this community and we hope you can join us.
