The City of Calgary has experienced significant growth in real estate sales this year. Our city saw an increase of over 17 per cent in total sales for the month of July, compared to last July’s activity. Year-to-month, Calgary has seen a rise in total sales of 6.3 per cent over the same time period in 2012.

“Some of this activity is related to the displaced renters and owners seeking other accommodation,” said Ann-Marie Lurie, CREB’s chief economist “But those consumers already searching for a home may have sped up their purchase decision, in response to concerns regarding the impact tight supply levels would have on prices.”

Overall, July was quite an impressive realty month, some due to the implications of the June 20th flood but also because our City’s real estate activity has been improving each month for most of 2013. It has definitely been a sellers market this spring and summer in Calgary. If a property is positioned correctly in the market place, sellers are often seeing their properties move quickly, experience multiple offers and sometimes at prices that are above the
list price.
