Capoeira (ˌkä-pə-ˈwā-rə ) is an Afro-Brazilian martial art that combines elements of martial arts, acrobatics, and music. It was developed in Brazil mainly at the beginning of the 16th century, through the expression of freedom by the African slaves.
This class explores the foundation of capoeira movement through the philosophy and music of capoeira roots. Develop your power, speed, and find your freedom and fluidity across a wide variety of kicks, spins and other techniques, through this playful and expressive art form.
Linda has been a student of capoeira since the late 1990’s, when she was introduced to it by her peers within the dance/breakdance culture, (as there are capoeira roots in hip hop and breakdance movement). She instantly fell in love with it when she felt how expressive, playful and challenging it was. Linda was able to teach introductory classes in Vancouver, and is now excited to share it with you here in Calgary. Capoeira connects us, culturally, build bridges and creates awareness.
