On Saturday, September 13, many happy families created habitat for garden-friendly creatures at this Parkdale Garden event. Bird houses were hammered together in teams of parents and children and then painted wonderful colors.  Bat houses were assembled, painted made ready to house those friendly mosquito eaters.  Mason bee houses made of bamboo lengths were constructed so that these native pollinators can be supported to do their work in the garden.

After a barbecue lunch, naturalist Alexandria Farmer held the group spellbound with her stories of bee life – including how long their memories are and how many different species of native bumblebees exist within Calgary.

We also want to thank Marcel Hebert who constructed all of the kits used for this event.
